What's BAS

A business activity statement (BAS) is a form that all businesses must lodge to the ATO. It summarises all the business taxes you have paid or to be paid to the ATO in a specific period.

BAS typically includes GST, PAYG instalment, PAYG withholding tax, and other taxes.

Who needs to lodge BAS?

In Australia, if you're GST registered, then you're required to lodge a BAS.

You're required to register for GST if your annual income turnover exceeds $75,000, or you expect your business turnover to exceed this threshold in the next 12 months. However, you still can choose to become GST registered voluntarily if your annual income is below $75,000.

For non-profit organisations where annual turnover exceeds $150,000 or if you're a taxi driver or ride-sharing driver (no matter your income), you will be required to register for GST.
